Celebrating the piano in all its virtuosic splendor, international pianist Yury Shadrin along with his wife, acclaimed musician Tian Lu present a blockbuster program of Liszt, Mozart and Rachmaninoff. The musicale includes the rarely performed Malédiction by Liszt for piano and strings, as well as Rachmaninoff’s virtuosic Suite No. 2 for Two Pianos and Mozart’s brilliant Concerto for Two Pianos in Eb Major.

Yury Shadrin

Pianist Yury Shadrin is an internationally acclaimed soloist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and numerous major venues across four continents. In recent seasons he has performed in concerts at Russia’s Mariinsky Theatre, China’s Central Conservatory of Music and Nanning EXPO Center, The Juilliard School, Eastman School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory.

As an orchestral soloist, Mr. Shadrin has appeared with the Baltimore, Kalamazoo, Miami, and Salta (Argentina) Symphony Orchestras, Gilmore Festival Chamber Orchestra, Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica of Venezuela, the Caracas Municipal Symphony, Philippines Philharmonic, and the Vietnam National Philharmonic Orchestra. He has firmly established his recital credentials as well, with recent performances with Washington Performing Arts, Russia’s Mariinsky Stars of the White Nights Festival on a recital program with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center organized by Maestro Valery Gergiev, and with other prestigious presenters in North America, South America, and Europe. His performances have been featured in radio and TV broadcasts in Vietnam, Venezuela, China, Japan, and the United States.

In the 2018-19 season, Mr. Shadrin gives his debut European recital tour as part of the virtuoso Sir András Schiff’s esteemed Building Bridges Tour, with solo performances at Konzerthaus Berlin and other leading halls in Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland; a performance of Mozart’s Double Piano Concerto with his partner Tian Lu with the Peabody Chamber Orchestra conducted by Leon Fleisher; and additional recitals and masterclasses at Oberlin Conservatory, the Royal College of Music in London, the Royal Conservatory of Ghent in Belgium, at conservatories throughout China, and in his role as Artistic Director of the Baltimore International Piano Festival.

Mr. Shadrin gained international recognition as a first prize winner of the Rome International Piano Competition and Grand Prize winner at the Siberian Piano Competition. In recent years, he has taken top honors at the World Piano Competition, the Maracaibo International Piano Competition, and the Yale Gordon Competition.  A Moscow Conservatory graduate, Mr. Shadrin studied with world-renowned pianists Lev Naumov and Eliso Virsaladze. Upon moving to the United States, he studied at Oberlin Conservatory with Monique Duphil, at Yale with Peter Frankl, and at the Peabody Institute with the great American master Leon Fleisher.

Tian Lu

An accomplished international performer, Chinese pianist Tian Lu has appeared as a concerto soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout Asia, the United States, Europe, and South America. Recent guest appearances include The Julliard School, Eastman School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Central Conservatory in Beijing as well as her debut recital at the Kennedy Center with Washington Performing Arts.

Ms. Lu was invited by the China Keyboard Society to play piano duo concerts and to give master classes in China. She has served as a Jury member of the Chopin Youth International Piano Competition. Currently, Ms. Lu serves as a Chairwoman of the IAC International Piano Competition.
